The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) General Assembly has resolved to expel Vice President McDonald Mariga and six other National Executive Committee (NEC) members following a Special General Meeting (SGM) held in Meru on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
In a statement issued on Saturday, FKF said the decision followed deliberations on allegations of serious and repeated violations of the federation’s Constitution and applicable FIFA regulations by the seven officials.
Those affected include Mariga, Central NEC representative Robert Kenneth Macharia, Upper Rift Valley representative Bernard Korir Lagat, Women Representative Violet Kerubo Momanyi, Nyanza representative Collins Opiyo Kalee, Coast representative Gabriel Mghendi and Nairobi representative Daniel Akala Shikanda.
The federation said the Assembly considered several issues, including a disputed NEC resolution passed on April 24, 2026, which sought the removal of FKF President Hussein Mohammed and other federation officials.
Other concerns raised included the officials’ alleged repeated failure to attend duly convened NEC meetings, unauthorised communication on behalf of the federation and actions deemed contrary to the FKF Constitution and applicable football regulations.
FKF said the General Assembly exercised its mandate under Articles 16 and 24 of the federation’s Constitution, which provide for the expulsion of members and dismissal of NEC officials.
The resolution came after a tense morning at Three Steers Hotel, where the meeting was initially disrupted by violent scenes and police intervention.
Police officers from the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) fired tear gas inside the hotel premises as delegates waited for the proceedings to begin, forcing attendees to flee the meeting area.
Mariga had earlier arrived at the venue under heavy security, amid claims that delegates allied to him had been pelted with stones and prevented from accessing the meeting hall.
Despite the disruption, FKF’s subsequent communication confirmed that the General Assembly had deliberated and adopted the resolutions.
The proceedings were attended by representatives of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), alongside Acting Sports Registrar Chacha J. Maroa and representatives of the State Department for Sports.
The federation said it would issue further communication on the implementation of the resolutions and the resulting administrative arrangements.
