Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested four suspects linked to a robbery with violence and sexual assault incident reported in Butere.
In a statement posted on its official X account, the agency said officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and the Operation Action Team (OAT) acted on “solid intelligence” to track down the suspects.
According to investigators, the incident occurred on the night of January 28, 2026, when three individuals broke into a local shop.
During the attack, they robbed the shopkeeper of goods valued at about Sh200,000 and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police confirmed the victim was also assaulted during the ordeal. “What followed was not just a robbery, it was an act of cruelty that left a lasting scar,” the DCI said.
Following the incident, detectives launched a targeted manhunt that led to the arrest of Benard Yaya Anaswa and Kelvin Omutanyi Zablon in Mabungo village.
“Under interrogation, the suspects led officers to Shirota village, where their alleged accomplice, Peter Osumba Omusinde, was also apprehended,” the statement added.
The operation later extended to Sabatia Market, where detectives arrested Johnstone Songa Maube, believed to have been in possession of stolen items. Authorities recovered several mobile phones suspected to be part of the loot.
“All suspects remain in custody pending processing and arraignment,” the DCI stated, adding that recovered items are being held as exhibits.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities continue efforts to ensure accountability and justice for the victim.
