KCB set for Gender Light showdown after dominant pool stage run

KCB Women’s Volleyball Team will face Gender Light Club in the Round of 16 of the ongoing Africa Club Championship on April 19, 2026, at the Al Ahly Sports Complex in Egypt, after finishing top of Pool D in emphatic fashion.

The Kenyan champions sealed their place in the knockout stage with a commanding straight-sets victory over Litto Team Volleyball of Cameroon, winning 25-13, 25-22, and 25-23 to secure maximum points.

Japheth Munala’s charges remain unbeaten in the tournament and are yet to drop a single set, underlining their dominance and title intent.

KCB set the tone early with a strong service game that disrupted their opponents’ reception, allowing them to control the tempo. Sharp setting and powerful attacks at the net saw them cruise through the opening set 25-13.

Litto Team Volleyball showed improvement in the second set, tightening their defense and challenging KCB with longer rallies. However, the Kenyan side’s composure in key moments proved decisive as they edged it 25-22.

The third set was closely contested, with both teams level at 23-23 before KCB found another gear. A decisive cross-court attack secured the final points and sealed a 3-0 win.

Match-winner Malyne Terry said topping the pool was crucial for confidence heading into the knockouts.

“We knew this was an important match because finishing top of the pool gives us confidence and a better position going forward. The girls stayed calm, trusted the system, and fought for every point. Now our focus shifts to Gender Light because every match from here is like a final,” she said.

Head coach Japheth Munala praised his team’s composure under pressure but cautioned that tougher tests lie ahead.

“I am happy with how the players responded, especially in the second and third sets. Our service and transition game worked well, but the competition only gets tougher. We must recover well and prepare mentally for the next challenge,” he said.

The tournament takes a break on Saturday, giving KCB time to recover and fine-tune preparations ahead of Sunday’s high-stakes clash, with a place in the quarterfinals on the line.
