G6 breaks down in emotional tribute to late brother Wicknell Chivayo

Joachim “G6” Chivayo has paid an emotional tribute to his late brother, Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo, describing him as his teacher, captain and a key influence in shaping the man he became.

G6 arrived at Wicknell and his wife Lucy Muteke’s funeral wearing a shirt bearing his late brother’s image as the couple were given their final farewell at Sahwira Glen Forest Memorial Park following their death in a helicopter crash.

Speaking during the funeral, G6 set aside his public identity as a businessman, choosing instead to speak as Wicknell’s younger brother.

“I stand before you not as a businessman, nor as G6, but as a little brother, Joachim Chivayo,” he said.

“And today, my brother, my teacher, our captain, has left us.”

G6 said he had known Wicknell for 35 years and initially worked for him before the two began working alongside each other in 2001.

Reflecting on the lessons he received from his elder brother, he recalled being assigned seemingly ordinary tasks, including collecting and delivering dog food.

“What I did not know back then was that I was not simply picking dog food,” G6 said.

“I was being prepared. I was being given lessons that made me a man. I was being strengthened.”

He also recalled how Wicknell taught him the importance of discipline and giving people his full attention.

G6 remembered being challenged by his brother whenever he used his phone while in the company of others.

“The lesson learned there: Put your phone down when you are with someone. And be present with them. That shows the other person that you have respect and love,” he said.

With the Chivayo family and mourners gathered for the final farewell, G6’s tribute offered a personal glimpse into the relationship between the two brothers, portraying Wicknell not only as a successful businessman but also as a mentor whose influence extended beyond business.
