Gigiri police officer dies in accident along Uhuru Highway

A police officer attached to Gigiri Police Station lost his life early Saturday morning after his vehicle overturned along Uhuru Highway in Nairobi.

The deceased, Police Constable Shadrack Otieno Genga, was reportedly enroute to Mlolongo from City Centre driving a Subaru Legacy.

Upon reaching Lusaka Roundabout, the officer is said to have lost control and veered off the road at the roundabout, where his vehicle overturned.

Due to the impact, the officer was thrown off the vehicle landing on the tarmac. He succumbed almost immediately to severe head injuries.

Officers from Makadara Police Station visited the scene and moved the body to Chiromo Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

This comes barely a day after another police officer perished in a road accident along the Marsabit-Moyale Highway.

According to the police report, the deceased- Corporal Shadrack Mwendwa- crashed in a police vehicle he was driving at Kambi Nyoka area along the Marsabit-Moyale Highway.

Mwendwa and seven other occupants in the Toyota Land Cruiser QRU were reportedly heading to Moyale from Marsabit when they crashed at around 4:30pm.

“Upon reaching the location of the accident, he lost control of the said vehicle and veered off the road and landed sideways to the left side of the road facing opposite direction,” read part of the police report.

Due to the impact, Corporal Mwendwa died instantly while the other occupants survived with injuries.
