Six people have been confirmed dead while several others were injured following an attack on a 14-seater public service vehicle in the Beer Awayon area along the route to Arabia village in Lafey Constituency, Mandera County.
The vehicle was travelling from Mandera town to Arabia when it came under attack.
Several passengers who were injured in the attack were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Lafey Constituency Member of Parliament Mohamed Abdikheir confirmed the incident, expressing sorrow over the lives lost, and calling for immediate action to bring those responsible to book.
“It is with profound sadness that I extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the six innocent travellers on a mini-bus who were brutally killed by unknown gunmen on the outskirts of Arabia. My prayers to the injured, who are fighting for recovery amid this senseless violence. I strongly condemn this barbaric act of cowardice, which has robbed lives,” Abdikheir said.
The MP appealed to security agencies to tighten surveillance and enhance security measures in the region to help prevent future attacks.
Security agencies have began investigations into the incident.
