The National Police Service has announced major road closures in Nairobi beginning at midnight on Monday, 11th May 2026, as the city prepares to host the three-day African Forward Summit 2026 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). The summit, scheduled to run from 10th to 12th May 2026, is expected to significantly disrupt traffic flow across the capital.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud says, several key roads will be fully closed during the event period, with restrictions mainly affecting routes leading to and around the city centre.
In a press briefing Saturday May 9, 2026, Mohammud said the fully closed roads include City Hall Way, Parliament Road, Harambee Avenue, and Taifa Road. Access will be strictly limited, with exceptions only for vehicles authorized to access the KICC Conference Centre.
In addition to the full closures, major roads such as Mombasa Road, Lang’ata Road, Thika Road, Limuru Road, Kiambu Road, and most parts of the Nairobi Central Business District are expected to experience heavy traffic disruption as security and traffic management measures are enforced.
He has called on motorists to plan their journeys early, use alternative routes where possible, and exercise patience throughout the summit period.
Drivers have also been advised to strictly follow instructions from traffic officers deployed across the city to manage movement and ensure security.
