“Na Baado!” Radio 47 strengthens its grip among Kenya’s radio giants

Radio 47 is once again making waves in Kenya’s competitive radio market, securing second place nationally in the latest Ipsos Q2 2026 rankings with an 8.2% market share.

The latest performance adds to a remarkable rise for the Cape Media-owned station, which has repeatedly punched above its weight since launching three years ago.

In a March 2026, Politrack Africa ranking, Radio 47 topped the national Swahili radio market with a 24.7% listenership share, beating established giants that have been in the industry for decades.

The station’s latest Ipsos ranking places it behind Citizen Radio at 17.4%, but ahead of Radio Jambo at 7.4% and Inooro FM at 7.0%.

Radio 47, which marked its third anniversary on March 13, 2026, boasts an advanced IP broadcasting system that two European technology firms have described as among the best in Africa and beyond.

Speaking on the achievement, Head of Radio Geoffrey Mung’ou said the station’s rapid growth has not happened by chance, but through hard work and consistency. He said Radio 47 boasts some of the country’s best presenters, cutting-edge broadcast technology, programming designed with listeners at the heart of it and a dedicated team behind the scenes.

“Tuna kile kilicho bora; tuna watangazaji, tuna mitambo ya kisasa, tuna vipindi vya kuburudisha na kuelimisha, tuna habari za punde zaidi, tuna Ukweli wa Mambo na mengine mengi ya kwendana na usasa, na usasa leo na kukupa ubora wote ambao unahitajika,” he stated.

Mung’ou says if its latest numbers are anything to go by, Radio 47’s “Na Baado!” journey is far from over.

“Tumekuwa tuking’aa na tutazidi kung’aa hapa Bonge la Radio na tutazidi kuvutia na kutamba na kutaratamba. Tutazidi kufanya vivyo hivyo. Hii imekuwa ngome ya ubunifu kwa hivyo tumekuwa tukibuni tena na tena na tena na tutazi kubuni,”

He says Radio 47 remains Kenya’s most preferred station, insisting that despite ranking second, it is the true number one in the hearts of listeners.

”Kwenye karatasi ni nambari mbili lakini tunajua kwamba ni nambari moja kwenye ground na siku zote tunasikiza ground na tunasema kwamba na bado.”

He has thanked its management, led by CEO Mwenda Njoka, Programmes Manager Linda Oriaso, alongside presenters, news and programme producers, digital journalists, music programmers, graphic designers and most importantly the listerns for driving the station’s success.

“Tunakushukuru wewe msikilizaji, tunawashukuru watanagzaji wote wa Radio47 Bonge la Radio na tunashukuru bodi na kila mmoja,” he said.

The station also leads the country in daily social media engagement and boasts the highest TikTok following among Kenyan radio stations, with 1.6 million followers.

Radio47’s growing stable of popular presenters, include Alex Mwakideu, Emmanuel Mwashumbe, Eva Mwalili, Billy Miya, Mbaruk Mwalimu, Mkamburi Chigogo, Japhe, Dr Ofweneke, Hassan Mwana wa Ali, Fred Arocho, Lucky Herriano among others.

From a startup exactly three years and three months ago to a regular fixture at the top of Kenya’s radio rankings, Radio 47’s rise has shaken up a market long dominated by established broadcasters.

With its rapid growth, strong digital presence and loyal audience, Radio 47 is showing no signs of slowing down.
