President Ruto’s daughter says she eats chips when stressed

President William Ruto’s daughter Charlene Ruto has revealed some of the ways in which she deals with stress.

Charlene was sharing some of her experiences during a mental wellness camp for teenagers at Kenyatta University’s main campus on Friday, August 18.

“When I am stressed I eat a lot, especially chips and they make me very happy,” she said, chuckling.

Her father, President Ruto in May this year, revealed he was also a stress eater. The head of state was responding to concern from Kenyans about his sudden weight loss barely a year after taking over government.

“We went into elections and you know when you have elections there is a lot of pressure, sometimes you take out the pressure on food. You have to do this and that and you don’t have time to go and exercise and sometimes you eat. Because you don’t know when you will get the next meal, sometimes you overeat,” the first in command explained in a joint media interview.

In January, Charlene invited feedback from the youth on 30 things she should advocate for this year as she turned 30.

Top issues that emerged from the comments include; mental health, income sources for youth, boy child and drug and substance abuse among the youth, which Charlene appears to have taken up.

She is fond of farming, particularly beekeeping at her family home in Uasin Gishu County. From sharing best practices to set up bee hives, to ways of breeding bees, Charlene has been encouraging the youth to delve into farming as a source of livelihood.
