East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Winnie Odinga has expressed her willingness to engage President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta as she seeks guidance and advice in her political journey.
Speaking during an interview with Edmund Obilo on his YouTube channel aired on Saturday, August 29, Winnie said she was open to meeting leaders across the political divide despite their differing political backgrounds.
“I’ll definitely meet Uhuru for guidance and advice,” Winnie said, signalling her willingness to maintain relationships with leaders who played significant roles in her father Raila Odinga’s political career.
The EALA MP said she does not approach politics with hostility and does not consider herself to have personal enemies.
“I don’t have beef with anybody, I don’t have a mortal enemy,” she said.
Winnie further explained that she was not interested in inheriting political rivalries associated with her father, but would instead seek to maintain relationships with his friends and allies.
“I have not inherited enemies, but I am trying to inherit my father’s friends,” she said.
She also expressed interest in meeting President Ruto, despite the political differences that have historically existed between the President and the Odinga family.
“I’d love to sit with President Ruto for advice,” Winnie said, adding that she would also welcome an opportunity to engage other leaders.
“I’d love to meet and sit with everybody,” she added.
Winnie described herself as someone who prefers dialogue and consultation rather than confrontation as she navigates the political landscape.
“I’m not an antagonistic, starting with war sort of person, I’m happy to meet and be advised,” she said.
Her comments suggest a willingness to engage political figures beyond traditional alliances, while seeking guidance from experienced leaders as she builds her own political identity.
The remarks come as Winnie continues to establish herself in public life following the death of her father, one of Kenya’s most prominent political figures, Raila Odinga.
