President William Ruto on October 7, 2026 presided over the commissioning of the former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Oding’a mausoleum at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.
The ocassion takes place a year after the late Prime Minister’s death, making it a milestone to honour one of the most influential political figures in the Country.
According to the Gender, Culture ,and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Hannah Cheptumo this ceremony is a huge step in safeguarding the former Prime Minister’s political contributions and to Kenya’s democratic development which would remain preserved for the next generations.
The Mausoleum was constructed by the Kenya Defence Forces and stands within the homestead of the Kang’o Ka Jaramogi where Jaramogi Oginga Odinga (Raila’s Father) ,freedom fighter was laid to rest. With its official commissioning done by the President ,the mausoleum will be under the management of the Museums of Kenya.
Being a public national Mausoleum, management of the Museums of Kenya will be in charge of conserving, documenting, interpreting ,and protecting the premises and ensuring both locals and foreigners engage with the political history of the Odinga’s.
The commisioning comes after a national commemoration, honoring the late Prime Minister ahead of the first anniversary of his passing.
From light projections of his life at the Kenyatta International Confrence Centre in Nairobi to the countrywide candle lighting vigil moments in different parts of the country, as citizens took a moment of reflection on the journey of the fallen man.
