Jürgen Klopp rules out coaching return, says he doesn’t miss football

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has confirmed he has no plans to return to football management, more than a year after stepping away from the sidelines.

Speaking to The Athletic, Klopp said he is content with life outside coaching and does not see himself taking another job in the dugout.

“I do not want to work as a football coach anymore. That’s what I think now. I’m 58, and if I tried again at 65, people would say, ‘You said you’d never do it again.’ But honestly, I thought 100 per cent when I stepped away that it was final. At the moment, I have zero plans,” he said.

The German tactician, who left Liverpool in 2024 after nine trophy-laden years, stressed that he doesn’t miss the game or the demands of elite-level management.

“I didn’t watch the Club World Cup. Chelsea were super happy to win it, great, a lot of money. But we have to take care of the players. Still, whatever I say, I may as well tell it to my microwave,” he added, pointing to the risks of player burnout.

Since leaving Liverpool, Klopp says he has been enjoying the simplicity of normal life.

“I didn’t know when games started. I was just out. I played sports, we enjoyed life, spent time with the grandkids. I don’t miss anything,” he explained.

Klopp, who won the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool, is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of his generation.

However, he insists his chapter in management is closed, even if he admits the future is unpredictable.

“For now, I’m not planning to return. That is what I think now, and I’m happy with it,” he concluded.
