Supporters of Soy United Club embark on a long distance walk from Likuyani to Nairobi

Supporters of Soy United Club have embarked on a 350-kilometre walk from Soy in Likuyani Constituency to Nairobi in a bid to raise funds for the team, which has faced persistent financial challenges in recent years.

The initiative highlights the strong bond between the club and the local community, with fans determined to keep the team alive and competitive.

According to the supporters, Soy United has over the years grown into a key talent pipeline, nurturing players who have gone on to feature in the Kenya Premier League and other top tiers of Kenyan football.

The club is widely regarded as a stepping stone for young footballers from the region seeking to break into the professional scene.

Established in the early 2000s, the club has steadily built a name for itself as a grassroots powerhouse despite operating on limited resources.

Its contribution to youth development and community engagement has earned it recognition beyond Likuyani, even as financial constraints continue to weigh it down.

The ongoing 350-kilometre walk is aimed at mobilizing resources to sustain the club’s operations, with organizers expressing hope that the journey will draw national attention and attract well-wishers.

Supporters say the initiative is not just about raising money, but about preserving a vital institution that has transformed many lives through football.

Club chairman Edwin Ayiro has called on leaders, fans, and the corporate sector to support the initiative, noting that the club requires close to KSh 20 million annually to run smoothly.

He remains optimistic that with collective effort, Soy United can regain its former glory and secure a brighter future for upcoming generations of players.
