Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka has mourned the death of former High Court Judge Justice Joseph Mutava Mbalu, describing him as a distinguished public servant who served the country with honour and integrity.
In a condolence message dated Saturday, August 22, 2026, Kalonzo extended his sympathies to Mutava’s widow, Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu, her children and the wider Mbalu family following the judge’s death.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have received the news of the passing of Justice Joseph Mutava Mbalu, husband of our dear sister and colleague, Hon. Jessica Mbalu, Member of Parliament for Kibwezi East,” Kalonzo said.
According to family sources, Mutava died while he was being rushed to Makindu for medical treatment. His body was later transferred to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi as the family began preparations for his final rites.
Kalonzo, who spoke on behalf of his family, Wiper Patriotic Front and Kenyans, described the late judge as a man whose contribution to the Judiciary would remain part of his legacy.

“Justice Mutava served our nation with honour, integrity and quiet distinction. He leaves behind a legacy of service in our Judiciary,” he said.
The Wiper leader also highlighted the personal loss suffered by the Mbalu family, noting that Mutava’s absence would be felt most deeply by those closest to him.
“But it is at home that Mutava will be missed most; as a husband and as a father, and it is there that our thoughts and prayers are today,” Kalonzo added.
He further offered words of comfort to Jessica Mbalu and her children, assuring them of support during the difficult period.
“To Hon. Jessica and the entire family: you do not grieve alone. The Wiper Patriotic Front and Kenyans across the country stand with you in this hour of sorrow,” Kalonzo said.
He also drew from the Bible to offer encouragement to the bereaved family, quoting Psalm 34:18, which says: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Kalonzo said he hoped the message would provide strength to Jessica and her children as they come to terms with the loss.
News of Mutava’s death has since elicited messages of grief from leaders and members of the public, with tributes highlighting his contribution to the legal profession and the Judiciary.
Kalonzo concluded his message by praying for the late judge’s eternal rest, saying, “May the soul of Justice Joseph Mutava Mbalu rest in eternal peace.”
