The National Government, through the Ministry of Defence in partnership with the Kitui County Government, has officially launched the construction of the Nzamba Kitonga Memorial Hospital in Mutitu/Kaliku Ward, Kitui East.
The KSh 200 million project is expected to be completed within nine months.
The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru together with Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, with leaders saying the hospital will improve healthcare services in the area.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Patrick Mariru said President William Ruto had approved full government funding for the 94-bed hospital, which aims to ease congestion in other health facilities.
He also assured residents that all projects initiated by the National Government will be completed as planned, with many expected to be officially commissioned by President Ruto in the near future.
On his part, Dr. Julius Malombe said the hospital will greatly benefit residents of the area, adding that there are plans to establish a medical training college.
Governor Malombe added the project was inspired by lessons learnt during the COVID-19 pandemic and is a tribute to renowned constitutional lawyer Nzamba Kitonga.
He also thanked President William Ruto and the National Government for supporting the project with KSh 200 million funding.
