Bumula MP Jack Wamboka and his Kabuchai counterpart Majimbo Kalasinga have raised concerns over the registration of a rival political outfit dubbed ‘Linda Party’ claiming the name had already been reserved by their Linda Mwananchi movement ahead of its planned registration as a political party.

Speaking to the press in Bungoma, Wamboka revealed that all plans are underway to ensure that to register Linda Mwananchi Movement as a political outfit after the ouster of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as the Secretary General and a section of the Linda Mwananchi MPs from key parliamentary committees.

Wamboka’s utterances come days after a group of people visited the Office of Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) in Nairobi to register a political party with name as Linda Mwananchi.

“What these people did is they went on cooked and took our reservation letter that was written and submitted by Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, omitted his name and inserted what they thought resonates with them,” Wamboka alleged.

The MP warned the registrar of political parties to be keen when transacting business in the office.    

However, Wamboka claimed that they reserved Linda Mwananchi Movement names long ago and they won’t allow ORPP to destroy their plan.

He noted that after a successful Linda Mwananchi Movement Party, they would open offices in all regions of the republic to popularize it.

“As we speak today, Linda Mwananchi movement is commanding many parts of the country and leading in the Western region, I ask those seeking different political positions from our region to join the party as we grow,” he said.

On the planned Linda Mwananchi rallies in Homa Bay on August 16, Wamboka warned Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma against allegedly threatening members of the movement over their planned political activities in the county.

In addition, Wamboka maintained that the Constitution guarantees every Kenyan the right to assemble and hold peaceful rallies anywhere within the country, provided they comply with the law.

He challenged Kaluma to allow the Linda Mwananchi team to exercise its constitutional rights, saying political leaders should not use threats or intimidation to prevent rival groups from holding meetings in areas where they have supporters.

“Like we have allowed our opponents from Kenya Kwanza to hold rallies across the country, they should also allow us to traverse the whole nation to look for support,” Wamboka said.

As the political battle for the 2027 presidency intensifies Linda Mwananchi MPs have urged opposition figures Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua and Fred Matiang’i to abandon their presidential ambitions and back Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Wamboka said that they have hosted close to 22 rallies held in three days in the Western region adding that the crowds reflected growing enthusiasm for Sifuna, particularly among young people, women, political aspirants and ordinary voters.

“We respect you, Kalonzo, Gachagua and Matiang’i. We know you have what it takes but in 2027, we ask you to stand with Sifuna,” Wamboka said.

He said the reception in Western Kenya showed that Sifuna’s campaign was gaining national attention.

The first time MP said Sifuna had focused on issues affecting Western Kenya, particularly the collapse of industries and the struggling sugar sector.

He pointed to Mumias and Nzoia sugar factories, saying their decline had left farmers and workers suffering.

Wamboka accused National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula of failing to deliver development promises made to Bungoma residents citing unfinished roads and the stalled Bungoma stadium, saying several projects lacked adequate funding despite repeated commitments to voters during the campaigns.

He also questioned Wetang’ula’s political record, citing past controversies and accusing the Speaker of failing to live up to his promises adding that voters should judge leaders by what they deliver, not by speeches alone.

Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga said the tour had proved that Sifuna’s bid was gaining grassroots support.

“Edwin Sifuna is going for president, nothing else,” he said.

He said supporters contributed small amounts to the campaign, arguing that the movement was being funded by ordinary Kenyans rather than wealthy political backers. He said crowds turned up voluntarily.

Kalasinga also announced that Linda Mwananchi would hold a rally in Homa Bay on August 16 despite local warnings from MP Peter Kaluma.
