A bus driver and his conductor are in police custody after a live snake was found hidden inside a wooden box aboard a Kidia One Express bus at the Namanga Border in Kajiado County.
Authorities believe that this was a smuggling operation originating from Dar es Salaam.
The snake was discovered during a routine cargo inspection carried out by customs officers working alongside the Kenya Police Service.
Officers grew suspicious of the cargo and conducted a thorough search, leading to the shocking find.
Oloilalei Namanga OCPD, Julius Munyagia, confirmed the incident, saying authorities are now focused on tracking down the main suspect believed to be the intended recipient of the snake. The suspect was allegedly waiting to collect the cargo inside the country.
The driver and conductor remain in custody at Namanga Police Station and are expected to be charged in court as investigations continue.
