For more than two decades, June Akinyi Ndinya has helped shape the stories audiences watch on television. Now, the seasoned media professional is stepping into a new role, taking charge of the company behind the content.
Ndinya has been appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer of Cape Media, effective October 10, 2026, moving from her previous role as Creative Director to lead the media house’s wider operations and strategic direction. Her appointment follows a leadership change at the company, with Ndinya replacing Mwenda Njoka.

The changes also saw Keneth Kazungu named Acting Editor-in-Chief, taking over from Simon Macharia Gachuru.

With more than 24 years in the media industry, Ndinya brings experience spanning television drama, comedy, educational programming, content development and production. Her career has taken her through different stages of the creative process, from developing programme ideas and writing scripts to managing teams, budgets and productions from concept to broadcast.
At Cape Media, she has been involved in overseeing original productions, guiding programming decisions and helping align creative teams with the company’s content and audience goals. Her work has centred on developing programming that speaks to viewers while meeting the demands of a fast-changing media industry.

A notable part of her journey at Cape Media has been working alongside Dr. Farida Karoney, the former Royal Media Services Chief Operating Officer who later joined President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Cabinet.
Karoney played a key role in the growth and transformation of Royal Media Services into one of Kenya’s leading media groups. At Cape Media, her collaboration with Ndinya has included developing new content for TV47 and supporting a creative direction aimed at attracting younger audiences through programmes that reflect their interests, experiences and aspirations.
With audiences increasingly consuming content across television, radio and digital platforms, understanding what viewers want has become central to the business of broadcasting.
Ndinya’s work has also attracted international recognition. Her honours include a 2025 International Emmy Award nomination, a Peabody Award nomination, a Communicator Award of Excellence and a Bronze Telly Award, reflecting her contribution to television entertainment and educational programming.
Her move to the Acting CEO position now brings a wider set of responsibilities. Beyond shaping what audiences watch, she will oversee the company’s operations and strategic priorities, with a focus on strengthening original productions, growing audiences and developing talent across its platforms.
The transition comes at a time when media companies are navigating changing viewing habits and increased competition for audiences.
For Cape Media, the challenge includes creating content that stands out, keeping viewers engaged and building a stronger presence across traditional broadcasting and digital spaces.

Ndinya brings with her more than two decades of experience in the business of telling stories, alongside an understanding of the teams, resources and decisions required to bring those stories to audiences.
Her appointment puts a media professional with deep roots in content creation at the centre of Cape Media’s leadership, as the company looks to build its audience and strengthen its position in Kenya’s competitive media landscape.
