Michael Jackson is the most-searched artist on Google in 2026 so far

Nearly two decades after his death, Michael Jackson is once again commanding the world’s attention – this time not from a stage, but through millions of Google searches.

The King of Pop has emerged as the most-searched artist on Google in 2026 so far, according to multiple reports tracking search interest. The resurgence comes as a new generation rediscovers Jackson’s music, while longtime fans return to the songs that defined an era.

At the heart of the renewed fascination is Michael, the long-awaited biopic portraying the life and career of the legendary performer. The film has reignited global curiosity about Jackson, sending audiences back to his music and sparking fresh conversations about the man behind some of pop music’s most unforgettable moments.

And the numbers tell a remarkable story.

Following the film’s release in April, streams of Jackson’s music in the U.S. jumped by 95% over its opening weekend, according to Luminate data reported by the Associated Press. His catalogue recorded 31.7 million streams on April 24–25, compared with 16.3 million the previous weekend.

Songs that once dominated the airwaves decades ago began finding their way back into charts and playlists. From “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” “Smooth Criminal,” “Thriller” and “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough” were suddenly being discovered or rediscovered by millions.

The phenomenon has also translated into extraordinary success for the biopic itself. Michael became the highest-grossing music biopic ever, surpassing Bohemian Rhapsody, with its worldwide box office eventually approaching the billion-dollar mark.

A Legend Refuses To Fade: Michael Jackson

There is something almost surreal about Jackson’s 2026 resurgence.

He has been gone since 2009. He is not recording new music. He is not touring. He cannot walk onto a stage and perform the moonwalk one more time.

Yet his name continues to generate enormous curiosity.

For younger audiences who never experienced Jackson at the height of his career, the biopic has provided a doorway into the world of a performer who transformed music, dance, fashion and entertainment.

For those who grew up with him, however, the resurgence feels more personal.

It is a reminder of the songs, the performances and the moments that made Michael Jackson more than a pop star. He became a cultural phenomenon whose influence survived long after the final curtain fell.

And perhaps that is the most emotional part of the story: Michael Jackson may be gone, but the world clearly has not stopped listening.

In 2026, the King of Pop is once again trending, streaming and dominating conversations – proving that some musical legacies simply refuse to disappear.
