Miguna Miguna defends DP Gachagua for spending weekend in Nyeri instead of receiving dignitaries at JKIA

Lawyer Miguna Miguna has defended Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua against criticism for failing to receive dignitaries at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Sunday, September 3.

Prominent businessman Rodgers Kipembe took to social media on Monday, throwing jibes at Gachagua for his absence at the airport.

Miguna Miguna’s response

“Other CSs are welcoming dignitaries at the Airport, alafu kuna ndugu yetu DP anapiga tizi kwa aunty yake uko Mathira,” he wrote on Twitter.

Hours later, Miguna came to Gachagua’s defense with a scathing response to Kipembe.

“Why not? An aunt is more important than total strangers; isn’t she?” the lawyer opined.

DP Gachagua spent the weekend in his backyard Mathira, Nyeri County visiting his relatives and throwing a party for locals.

“It is always heart-warming spending time with my beautiful neighbours in the village of Mathira, Nyeri.

“Their simplicity and forthrightness is real and refreshing; it was a wonderful way to prepare for a busy and crucial week as our President William Ruto hosts the high-level Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi starting tomorrow,” the second in command stated.

He was however quite active today (Tuesday) as he received national leaders at the Africa Climate Summit at KICC, Nairobi.

Prime Cabinet Secretary (CS) Musalia Mudavadi was also missing at JKIA over the weekend to receive dignitaries.

He was flying out to Zimbabwe to represent Ruto at the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.

Zimbabwe’s historic event

“Honoured to have witnessed the historic inauguration of H.E Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa in Harare, Zimbabwe.

“Wishing President Mnangagwa success in his second term as he strives to uplift the nation,” Mudavadi said after the ceremony which took place on Monday, September 4.

The Prime CS returned to the country on Monday evening and is today (Tuesday) attending the Africa Climate Summit. The event, which has attracted over 15,000 dignitaries, will come to a close on Wednesday, September 6.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga is also in attendance.
