People’s Party of Kenya Leader Ndindi Nyoro has accused politicians allied to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) of spreading propaganda and falsehoods against him, alleging that the Rigathi Gachagua-led outfit has formed a team to portray him as a government project.
Addressing aspirants and delegates from across the country at the PPK Headquarters, Nyoro said the attacks had intensified following the launch of his party, accusing DCP leaders of shifting focus from President William Ruto to destabilising him and his political outfit.
Nyoro has called on Gachagua to rein in his members, warning that continued attacks could undermine unity within the opposition.
He maintained that neither intimidation nor propaganda would distract him from his political agenda, insisting that Kenyans would eventually establish the truth.
The Kiharu Member of Parliament says the opposition should concentrate on addressing the challenges facing the country and uniting behind a common objective of removing President Ruto from power.
On the broader opposition strategy, Nyoro has reaffirmed his commitment to uniting opposition leaders to defeat President Ruto in the 2027 General Election without a runoff. He identified the economic hardships facing Kenyans and the current administration as the main issues that should unite opposition parties, warning that internal disagreements and personal attacks could weaken their collective efforts.
According to Nyoro, the opposition must remain focused on its common political objective rather than engage in unnecessary confrontations.
IEBC conundrum
Turning to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Nyoro has criticised the transfer of some returning officers, claiming that the changes have disproportionately affected areas where the government has lost popularity.
He called on the commission to ensure that such transfers are conducted fairly and in a balanced manner, warning against any actions that could compromise public confidence in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyoro has further accused the government of using regional and county commissioners to influence the deployment of returning officers and voter registration activities. He warned against what he termed attempts to manipulate electoral dynamics through state resources, insisting that no amount of intimidation or government spending would prevent Kenyans from making their political choices.
Nyoro also opposed what he described as disproportionate increases in voter numbers in certain areas, calling for fairness and adherence to national registration trends.
Kenya Pipeline share sale
On the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) share sale, Nyoro has renewed his allegations that President William Ruto instructed chief executive officers of public institutions holding shares in the company to sell them to a private investor, arguing that pensioners had been disadvantaged.
Nyoro maintained that his previous warnings about the transaction were justified despite his suspension from parliamentary sittings over the matter, saying this is evident after a company associated with Dangote East African Petroleum Refinery bought 24.76% stake
Nyoro alleged that the share sale forms part of a wider plan to give Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote a controlling interest in KPC, claiming that further sales by public institutions could increase the stake associated with Dangote to 75 per cent. He called for full disclosure of the shareholding structure, warning that Kenyans would not accept arrangements that allow politically connected individuals to benefit from public assets.
Nyoro has revealed that President Ruto and Dangote were working together in business and challenged the president to clarify the alleged links, insisting that the KPC transaction and related petroleum arrangements must be subjected to public scrutiny.
