Ministry of Health announces six recoveries and eighteen days without new Ebola case as Kenya nears the finish line

Kenya’s sixth Ebola patient has recovered and been discharged from hospital after testing negative for the Bundibugyo virus disease, the Ministry of Health has announced.

The discharge comes 32 days after the country recorded its first imported case on October 6, 2026. One patient remains under care, receiving treatment and close medical monitoring.

The Ministry has also announced that no new case has been recorded for eighteen days, since October 19, 2026. So far, the total number of confirmed cases remains at nine, all from the first confirmed case. Sixty-six contacts have completed their 21 days of monitoring and returned home, and the remaining fifty-two are expected to complete their quarantine by November 11, 2026.

The Ministry noted that the results did not happen by chance instead it followed specific guidelines to prevent the spread of the disease.

“These results did not happen by chance. Kenya followed the proven steps that stop Ebola: find every case early, isolate and treat the sick, trace and monitor everyone they came contact with, protect health workers, and bury the dead safely and with dignity. Every person who fell ill after the first case was already under quarantine, which meant the virus had nowhere to go,” the Ministry said.

Kenya is expected to be declared Ebola free when the last patient leaves the treatment centre free of the virus and the 42-day countdown has ended.

The ministry also thanked all the stakeholders involved in making the progress possible at the same time urging the members of the public to continue being on guard while taking the necessary measures set a side to prevent the spread of the disease.

“Ebola is still active in the region, and outbreaks in the country can quickly reach another. Kenya will keep screening travelers at all the twenty-six (26) points of entry, where to date more than 760,000 travelers have been screened, and will keep its emergency operations centres and rapid response teams on alert in every county, ” the Ministry added.

Additionally, travellers have been urged to complete the electronic traveler surveillance form on the UHAI Chatbot before arrival, declare any symptoms, and report any illness within 21 days of arrival.

The ministry says it will continue to work with the neighbours, the East African Community and Africa CDC, to ensure the whole region is safe.

“We will continue to work with our neighbours, the East African Community and Africa CDC, because no country is safe until the whole region is safe,” the Ministry stated.
