MKU Shines at KUSF Nairobi North Conference League

Mount Kenya University has once again stamped its authority in university sports after emerging among the top-performing institutions at the Kenya Universities Sports Federation (KUSF) Nairobi North Conference League.

In what many described as one of the most competitive editions of the league in recent years, MKU showcased exceptional talent, discipline, and resilience following seven months of intensive preparation.
The university walked away with several prestigious institutional awards, including Best Private University, Best Host University, and Most Punctual University. MKU also finished as the 1st runners-up overall, cementing its reputation as a powerhouse in university sports.

The institution dominated across multiple disciplines, clinching 10 championship titles. MKU emerged champions in men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball, men’s and women’s woodball, women’s taekwondo, women’s table tennis, men’s karate, men’s darts, and men’s and women’s badminton.

The university further recorded eight second-place finishes in basketball, athletics, karate, swimming, table tennis, and tennis, while also securing nine third-place finishes in football, hockey, netball, volleyball, chess, darts, and scrabble.

Speaking after the competition, MKU Head of Sports, Creative and Performing Arts and Nairobi North Conference Secretary, Mr. William Luta, praised the athletes for their dedication and sacrifice throughout the season.

MKU Dean of Students, Dr. Emmanuel Owour, said the results reflected the university’s commitment to nurturing talent and supporting holistic student development through sports.

Other universities also posted notable performances during the competition. Kenyatta University emerged as the overall winners, while Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) finished third overall and also won the Most Disciplined University award. Mama Ngina University College was named the Most Improved University, while St. Paul’s University received the Best Fair Play Award.

Beyond the medals and trophies, the KUSF Nairobi North Conference League highlighted the growing competitiveness, teamwork, and resilience that continue to define university sports in Kenya.
