The man who stormed Parliament shouting “Mr. Speaker Sir!” during the 2024 Gen Z demonstrations has reappeared after close to two years, laying to rest all fears that he may have been killed.
Chama now says he was in hiding for the one year and nine months that he stayed underground. Many assumed he was dead, and some had even forgotten about him. But whenever the story of the June 25, 2024 Gen Z demonstrations is told, his face refuses to fade away.
His was among the most prominent images and videos captured on that day, now serving as a reminder of a day that shall remain etched in the annals of history.
Wearing a black T-shirt, goggles, and a black mask hanging below his chin, with a smartphone in his hand, Chama became the center of attention in the National Assembly as he shouted “Mr. Speaker Sir!” several times.
“Tuko hapa na hatuendi, leo tunalala hapa” (We are here and we are not leaving, today we are sleeping here) are some of the words he is best remembered for. He was later seen in the parliament’s restaurant, where he clearly enjoyed a feast.

It was the height of rebellion against a government that the Gen Zs felt had completely ignored them. The Finance Bill 2024 was eventually dropped, but at a great cost.
Authorities placed the number of those who died in the protests at 65, with some individuals disappearing without a trace. There was no way Chama could have survived the onslaught, many believed. But Chama is back!
Speaking during his first public appearance, Chama says he received several threats that forced him underground, but he has no regrets about coming out in solidarity with Gen Z.
“During that time, there was high taxation and the cost of living was very high,” Chama says, explaining the genesis of his moment of both fame and pain.
“We entered parliament, but after that, life changed for many of us. Many Kenyans lost their lives. As for me, I have been in hiding for almost one year and nine months,” he explains.
Chama says he got tired of life in hiding and chose to come out to start a new life.
“I cannot stay in hiding forever. We want to change this country, and we cannot change it by hiding.”
Having made the decision to come out of hiding, Chama has now appointed Embakasi East MP Babu Owino as his lawyer in case anyone has any legal grievances against him.
Chama is among a number of individuals whose images were circulated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for what it termed as ‘unlawful activities’ during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations. The DCI went on to ask anyone with information about them to share it confidentially.
Babu Owino, who became a hero of the demonstrations after he jumped over the gate to join the protestors, also admitted that he did not expect Chama to be alive.

“I thought you had been killed because we didn’t receive any information, even from your relatives,” Owino said.
Babu Owino went on to explain that Chama has nothing to fear because he was part of a group expressing legitimate concerns. He noted that since the Finance Bill 2024 was dropped, Chama and the rest achieved their objective.
Reports of his resurfacing have ignited a wave of excitement across the internet, with many saying they had feared he was dead. “Welcome back, our hero,” is the leading comment, as netizens express admiration for his courage.
“Welcome back, champ. I never thought I’d see you alive… that boldness!” another wrote.
To others, he has come back at just the right time.
“He has appeared at a time Kenyans need him the most. ‘Mr. Speaker Sir’ Season 2 loading.”
Kenyans are absolutely thrilled to welcome their comrade home, particularly as public participation for the Finance Bill 2026 gets underway.
