Mudavadi charts new path for business growth with public-private alliance

Prime Cabinet Secretary Dr. Musalia Mudavadi has announced plans to harmonize government and private sector efforts to improve the ease of doing business in Kenya.

Speaking during a high-level stakeholder engagement meeting, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of collaboration.

Promising a unified strategy to be launched by April.

Highlighting the critical role of the private sector in driving Kenya’s economy and creating jobs, Mudavadi said the government is working on a clear matrix of responsibilities.

“We need to unite behind the shared goal of creating an environment where businesses flourish and investments thrive,” Mudavadi stated during the meeting themed

“The Ease and Cost of Doing Business and Facilitation of a Smooth Business Environment for the Private Sector.”

The event brought together key players, including Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and private sector leaders such as KEPSA, the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce.
Quoting Milton Friedman, Mudavadi reminded attendees that the government’s core role is to facilitate business and empower the private sector.

Musalia admits to Govt shortcomings

Mudavadi acknowledged barriers such as excessive bureaucracy, outdated regulations, and inefficient infrastructure.

He invited private sector stakeholders to provide honest feedback, saying, “This is your opportunity to tell us where the shoe pinches.”

Outlining the path forward, Mudavadi highlighted three critical areas for improvement: regulatory frameworks, infrastructure investment, and transparency.

He stressed that fighting corruption and streamlining tax processes are vital to creating a business-friendly environment.

Quoting an African proverb, Mudavadi urged unity: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

He also called for empowering Kenya’s youth, describing them as the driving force behind innovation and creativity.

Treasury Secretary John Mbadi echoed these sentiments, responding to private sector concerns about tax refunds, pending bills, and inflation.

He assured businesses that the government is committed to resolving these issues to enhance cash flow and stabilize the economy.

With a collaborative tone, Mudavadi concluded, “Together, we have the tools, talent, and persistence to achieve greatness.”
