Kericho Governor Eric Mutai has defended Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen following the criticism made by the Democracy of the Citizens Party (DCP) after the tragic fire incident at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County.
Speaking after the incident at his home county Kericho, during the inaugural graduation of Belgut Technical Training Institute, Governor Mutai urged leaders and Kenyans to stop politicising the tragedy and to support the affected families.
He further went ahead and defended the CS amid criticism following the fire incident.
“Kipchumba Murkomen is not resigning, he is not going anywhere, he is the best CS we can have… stop politicising and taking advantage of tragedy.”
Governor Mutai also passed his sincere condolences to the families of the students who lost their lives in the tragic fire incident.
He added that leaders and stakeholders will work closely with the quality assurance officers to strengthen the safety measures in schools and help prevent similar events and incidents in future.
