Gospel musician and pastor Linet Munyali, popularly known as Size 8, has opened up about one of the most painful experiences of her life, losing her mother just hours after giving birth to her first child and being unable to attend her funeral.

Speaking during an emotional sit-down interview with media personality Jacquey Nyaminde, popularly known as Wilbroda, Size 8 recounted how November 2015 became the darkest period of her life as she navigated the joy of welcoming her daughter and the grief of losing her mother almost simultaneously.

According to the singer, her mother passed away only hours after learning that she had given birth.

“After I gave birth to my firstborn, a few hours later my mum died. She never got to see my daughter. Nilishindwa, am I supposed to be happy or sad,” Size 8 said.

She revealed that she believes her mother had held on long enough to hear that she had safely delivered her baby.

“She used to call every time, so immediately aliskia nimezaa, her organs collapsed and she died. November 2015 was my darkest month,” she recalled.

At the time, Size 8 was recovering from a Caesarean section, caring for a premature newborn, battling high blood pressure, and struggling financially after using her savings to pay her mother’s medical bills.

“I only had Sh58 in my account because I was the one paying my mum’s hospital bills, so it was not easy,” she said.

The singer disclosed that due to her fragile medical condition, doctors only allowed her to view her mother’s body briefly before advising her against attending the funeral.

“I only saw my mum’s body for five minutes. I never buried her,” she said emotionally.

“The doctor told me to choose my mum or my daughter, and my daughter was premature. I was only given a few minutes to go see my mum’s body.”

She explained that doctors feared the emotional distress and physical strain could worsen her condition and jeopardize her recovery from surgery.

Reflecting on her mother’s life, Size 8 described her as one of her greatest supporters, including during her marriage to DJ Mo.

She recalled that when Mo paid dowry, her mother strongly supported their union despite his financial limitations at the time.

“My mum loved Mo. When he was paying dowry, he didn’t have a lot of money at that time, so whatever he brought, my mum told my dad and the elders that this is the man I want my daughter to spend the rest of her life with,” she said.

“My mum raised an altar of prayer. My mum was killed because whhy are you coming to change the status quo of the family,” she claimed.

Size 8 further revealed that following her mother’s death, she experienced what she described as severe spiritual and emotional struggles.

“Immediately I got born again, I couldn’t sleep. I went through demonic torture,” she said.

Her emotional account offers a glimpse into the profound grief, faith struggles, and personal sacrifices that shaped one of the most difficult chapters of her life.
