A total of 11 suspects have been arrested and a significant amount of counterfeit alcoholic beverages seized by a NACADA-led multi-agency operation within Nairobi County between 20th and 31st August 2026.

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) says the 10-day operation was conducted in eight subcounties within Nairobi: Roysambu, Kasarani, Dagoretti North, Dagoretti South, Starehe, Lang’ata, Embakasi West and Kamukunji.

In a statement on Tuesday, September 1, NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa says the Authority is closely following heightened public concern and reports of counterfeit, fake and unsafe alcoholic products being manufactured, distributed, sold and consumed across the country.

“In collaboration with relevant Government Agencies, NACADA is verifying information shared by Wananchi on various platforms to ensure prompt action by the Multi-Agency teams across the country,” Dr. Omerikwa says, painting a grim picture of the situation in Nairobi. “The operation has further exposed a range of serious compliance concerns, including counterfeit KRA excise stamps, uncoded alcoholic products, expired alcoholic beverages and counterfeit products.”

Dr. Omerikwa revealed that NACADA is working closely with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), National Police Service (NPS) and other relevant agencies to verify seized products, pursue persons involved in the manufacture, distribution and sale of counterfeit and illicit alcoholic products, and ensure that offenders are subjected to due process of the law.

“The Authority reiterates that the ongoing operations are not limited to individual outlets but are intended to disrupt the wider networks involved in the manufacture, distribution and sale of counterfeit and illicit alcoholic products. NACADA remains committed to coordinated enforcement, public education and stakeholder collaboration to safeguard the health and wellbeing of Kenyans.”

In the latest operation on Monday, August 31 afternoon, the NACADA-led team raided an outlet in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Embakasi South, and seized 240 counterfeit assorted alcoholic beverages bearing fake KRA stamps.

The operation, conducted by officers from NACADA, KRA, KEBS, the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA), and the NPS, resulted in the arrest of one suspect who was booked at Jogoo Road Police Station pending arraignment in court.

This came barely days after similar successful operations in Eastleigh, Jericho, and South B, where hundreds of counterfeit alcoholic drinks and a huge cache of narcotics were recovered.

The back-to-back successes underscore the effectiveness of the Authority’s intelligence-led enforcement approach, which has dealt counterfeiters and drug traffickers successive deadly blows in their illegal trade.
