Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has broken his recent silence, sending a stern warning to political detractors and leaders who have abandoned the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Speaking on Saturday May 30, 2026 during a medical camp in Bondo sub-county, Wandayi challenged political rebels to officially resign from the ODM party and face the electorate instead of undermining it from within.
“If you think you are man enough, leave ODM, form your party, come back with it here, and run against ODM, then we see,” the Cabinet Secretary dared.
In the Ugunja consultative forum, that brought together almost the entire leadership of Siaya County Assembly, the leaders resolved to steer the region towards strategic partnerships with the national government under the broad-based government framework.
Addressing critics who have questioned the political direction of the region, veteran politician and ODM leader Dr. Oburu Oginga stated that the party is executing a deliberate strategy ahead of the next polls.
“We are going to proceed, and we are proceeding systematically. We are proceeding with a plan,” Dr. Oburu asserted, adding that there is no need to rush with the election over a year away. “I am leading you to a path of honey,” he added.
Wandayi announced a complete return to the local political scene, promising to be actively involved in shaping the county’s future leadership, starting from the gubernatorial seat downwards.
“We have resolved that we shall not make a mistake. I will personally not allow myself to be party to a situation where we make another mistake in this county,” Wandayi stated.
Echoing Wandayi’s sentiments, Siaya County Assembly Speaker George Okode declared that the political destiny of the county lies squarely within the current broad-based government cooperation.
Speaker Okode stated unequivocally that Siaya is firmly backing a two-term tenure for the presidency.
“That means that the next president of the Republic of Kenya is Dr. Samoei William Ruto,” Okode stated, affirming full endorsement for the ongoing negotiations between ODM and UDA.
