Eight suspects have been arrested after police recovered 250 kilogrammes of cannabis during an intelligence-led anti-narcotics operation in Githurai 44, Kasarani Sub-County, in a major crackdown targeting the illegal drug trade.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the overnight operation was conducted following actionable intelligence and a tip-off from members of the public, leading officers to a residential property believed to be linked to narcotics activities.
“Police officers in Nairobi have dealt a significant blow to the local narcotics supply chain following an overnight operation in Kasarani Sub-County,” the NPS said in a statement.
During the raid, officers carried out a thorough search of the premises and recovered 250 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, 1,800 rolling papers, a 25-kilogramme bag of white polythene packaging material, and a large metallic sieving mesh suspected to have been used in processing the drugs.
The eight suspects were arrested at the scene and taken into police custody for processing before being arraigned in court. Police confirmed that all recovered exhibits have been securely stored as investigations continue.
The National Police Service commended the officers involved in the operation, describing it as a result of effective coordination and public cooperation.
“The National Police Service commends the officers involved for their swift coordination and thanks the public for their continued collaboration in combating illicit drugs and other crimes,” the statement read.
The agency further appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing information on suspected criminal activities.
“Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity at the nearest police station,” the NPS said, encouraging the use of its toll-free emergency numbers and anonymous reporting channels.
Police say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and enhance public safety across the country.
