Prison warden saved from angry mob after firing shots in a bar

Police Constable Cyrus Ouma, who is a warden at Bungoma GK Prison, escaped death by a whisker from an angry mob after firing shots indiscriminately at a bar.

According to a police report filed at Bungoma Police Station, the warden and another colleague who is yet to be identified, walked into an entertainment joint known as Prime Bar in Township sub-location at 11pm Friday.

The two officers demanded to be served, despite the bar attendant announcing it was time to close down the premises.

“They got annoyed and exchanged insults with the attendant one Linet Atieno,” read part of the report.

Irked, Constable Ouma fired one shot of 7.62mm at the bar, forcing revelers to scamper for safety.

Apparently, the two officers proceeded to the exit where they continued shooting indiscriminately, sending panic across the town.

Officers from Bungoma Police Station rushed to the scene only to find an angry mob almost lynching Constable Ouma.

“Members of the public managed to apprehend Pc Cyrus Ouma and subjected him to mob injustice injuring him on the back of the head.

“Police Officers rescued him from the riotous mob and recovered the rifle G3 KE-KPS 95-070700 loaded with ten rounds of ammunition. Two used cartridges recovered from the scene and kept as exhibits,” added the police reportt.

The injured warden was rushed to Bungoma West Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

He is currently under police custody pending arraignment. A manhunt has been launched for the other warden involved in the shooting incident.
