Police in Bungoma County are investigating an incident that saw an accountant allegedly abducted and robbed of KSh600,000 shortly after leaving a bank.
According to police officers, the incident occured on Thursday, July 9 at around 12:30 pm in the Sikusi area along the Bungoma-Chwele Road.
Reports indicate that the accountant, who works in Sirisia, had withdrawn the amount of money from a bank in Bungoma Town, and had boarded a motorbike. However, the accountant the rider noticed that a vehicle had been following them from Bungoma Town.
Reports say that five men, one of them armed with a gun, intercepted the motorbike and forced the accountant and the rider into their vehicle before driving with them along a murram road ti an unknown destination.
The aftermath… the accountant was robbed the KSh600,000, his ID card and a Tecno Spark 8 mobile phone. The motorbike rider was also robbed of KSh390 and an M10 mobile phone. Fortunately for him, his TVS motorcycle was abandoned at the scene of robbery.
The two victims of the abduction and subsequent robbery were dumped in a maize plantation around Kimilili area. They proceeded to report the incident at Kimilili Police Station.
According to investigators working on the case, the attackers may have had prior information that the accountant will withdraw the KSh600,000 from the bank.
The detectives have since visited the bank in Bungoma Town and reviewed the CCTV footage to ascertain whether the suspects had been monitoring transactions before trailing the victim.
