Pastor Dorcas Rigathi calls for global mentorship for young people during mental health awareness month

As we mark the end of Mental Health Awareness Month, Rev. Dorcas Rigathi has called on people of goodwill around the world to step forward and mentor, listen to and support young people, particularly university and college students facing mental health challenges.

Speaking in Dallas, Texas, USA, Rev. Dorcas emphasised the need for young people to know that they are loved, valued and never alone.

She called on people of goodwill world over to volunteer their time and voices towards establishing a toll-free helpline where young people can reach someone who will listen, encourage and walk with them during difficult moments.

“Reach out to our young people. Talk to them. Love them. Remind them that they matter, that they are loved and that God has a bigger purpose for their lives.”

Rev. Dorcas urged individuals, organisations and the business community to come together to create safe spaces where young people can speak openly about mental health and find the support, mentorship and encouragement they need.

“Every young life matters. Sometimes, a listening ear, a word of encouragement and a reminder of purpose can make all the difference,” she said.
