Young people in Siaya County are set to reap the rewards of the digital economy following the groundbreaking of the Alego Usonga Jitume Digital Centre of Excellence.
Spearheaded by the Technopolis Development Authority, the facility aims to bridge the digital divide by equipping youth with critical tech infrastructure, professional skills, and pathways to online employment without needing to migrate out of their communities.
Officiating the ceremony on behalf of Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi, Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron emphasized that the project is a vital investment in local futures.
”Our young people should not have to leave their communities to access the opportunities being created by the digital economy,” Hon. Oron said, highlighting the center’s role in sparking local innovation, entrepreneurship, and employment. Once operational, the hub will anchor digital empowerment efforts in the constituency.
Technopolis Development Authority Chief Manager for Construction, Operation and Management, Eng. Anthony Sang, noted that the initiative is designed to transition youth seamlessly from basic digital literacy to active economic participation.

The Alego Usonga project falls under the broader national Jitume Digital Enablement Programme launched in 2023.
Nationally, the initiative has deployed nearly 30,000 digital devices, trained over 100,000 youth, and facilitated digital jobs for more than 91,000 individuals.
The facility is a collaborative effort between the Technopolis Development Authority, the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), the ICT Authority (ICTA), and the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
It forms part of the government’s wider strategy to cultivate a digitally skilled workforce capable of driving Kenya’s technological future.
