Sonko declares NEDP Party open to all, revokes unapproved Kwale appointments

National Economic Development Party (NEDP) leader Mike Mbuvi Sonko has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to what he described as fairness, transparency and inclusivity while clarifying that no officials have yet been formally appointed to leadership positions in Kwale County.

In a statement issued during the opening of the party’s new offices in Ukunda, Sonko said the party would conduct its affairs through democratic processes and allow members to determine who carries the party ticket in future elections.

“Our party, the National Economic Development Party (NEDP), is a fair, transparent, and democratic movement that welcomes everyone regardless of race, tribe, ethnicity, gender, or age,” Sonko said.

He invited aspirants and supporters to engage with the party leadership and structures as preparations continue for future political activities.

“To all our aspirants, you are warmly welcome to visit our party headquarters, familiarize yourselves with the party structures, engage with the people, and prepare for the journey ahead. At NEDP, the voice of the people matters most, and the candidate chosen by the people will proudly fly our party flag when the time comes,” he added.

Sonko also moved to address confusion surrounding party leadership in Kwale after reports emerged of appointments allegedly made during the Ukunda event.

According to the party leader, the delegation led by Secretary General Ben Mulwa and Executive Director Dan Onsomu had only attended the official opening of the offices and no county leadership positions had been formally filled.

“All county leadership positions shall be filled through a free, fair, and democratic process by the party. Therefore, any positions announced today are null, void, and hereby revoked pending the official party process,” Sonko stated.

The clarification comes as NEDP continues expanding its structures across different counties as it seeks to strengthen its grassroots presence ahead of future political contests.
