Police in Mombasa have arrested a Tanzanian couple suspected of drugging bus passengers and stealing their valuables.

Detectives traced the suspects to their hideout in Magongo through a forensic trail.

The latest case came to light on September 18, 2026, when a passenger boarded a Dreamline bus from Nairobi to Mombasa.

Somewhere along the journey, the person seated next to him allegedly drugged him, rendering him unconscious.

He woke up in a hospital bed at Tudor Sub-County Hospital, his bag and all his personal belongings gone.

Detectives from Makupa Police Station launched an immediate investigation, following forensic leads that eventually brought them to Magongo, where they arrested Pius Paskale Frugenze, 52, and his wife Redempta Revelian Kuleta, 47.

A search of their house recovered the complainant’s HP laptop and iPhone 17 Pro Max, providing a crucial breakthrough.

Officers also found an assortment of other mobile phones, 20 phone chargers, 10 wristwatches, 20 wallets, assorted clothing, and substances suspected to be stupefying drugs, pointing to a broader criminal operation that had likely claimed multiple victims.

Both suspects are in custody undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment, while all recovered items have been secured as exhibits.
