Police in Nairobi have unearthed a criminal syndicate involved in the stealing and flashing of mobile phones in Nairobi County, arresting three suspects in the process.
This is after officers from Central Police Station, acting on intelligence, on Sunday, August 17 raided a shop at Platinum Plaza along Tom Mboya Street, and arrested a suspect believed to be involved in receiving and flashing stolen mobile phones.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the police officers uncovered 38 assorted mobile phones, three laptops and one desktop computer upon searching the stall.
“The officers also intercepted two other suspects at the Imenti House car park, inside a motor vehicle,” the NPS says. “A search of the vehicle revealed two Lenovo monitors, central processing units (CPUs), keyboards, cables and other computer accessories, all bearing labels identifying them as property of a government institution.”
The said vehicle has been detained at the Central Police Station even as investigations continue.
The Service has hailed the operation that they say has underscored a critical dimension in the fight against theft: “the battle does not end where property is stolen. National Police Service officers are following the intelligence trail to the receivers, dealers and other networks that create a market for stolen goods.”
