NEDP Party leader and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has taken his grassroots mobilisation campaign to Westlands Constituency, touring Kangemi and Kibagare as he steps up efforts to popularise the National Economic Development Party (NEDP) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Addressing a huge crowd during his visit, Sonko said he was continuing his tour of Nairobi’s 17 constituencies to listen to residents, understand their challenges and explain NEDP’s economic and development agenda for the capital.

Sonko said the grassroots tour was not only about political mobilisation but also about laying the foundation for an economic empowerment programme targeting youth, women and other community groups.
He said the initiative would see groups revived and supported to pursue income-generating activities, with NEDP making economic empowerment a central pillar of its agenda.
The former Governor said the Kangemi and Kibagare visits were part of a wider programme that will take him across all 17 Nairobi constituencies as he seeks to reconnect with residents and build a strong grassroots network.

Sonko has in recent days stepped up the campaign, having earlier toured Fuata Nyayo and Marigoini in South B, where he announced plans to revive and strengthen youth and women’s groups as part of the NEDP “Uchumi Bora, Nguvu Yetu” campaign.
He said the groups would provide a platform through which residents could organise themselves, access empowerment opportunities and engage directly with the party leadership on challenges affecting their communities.
“Nairobi is my bedroom. This is the place that has made me, and this is the place that I should help to grow economically and development-wise. Through our party, NEDP, we shall do that,” Sonko said during the earlier South B tour.

Sonko has pledged to take the empowerment programme to all 17 constituencies, with a particular focus on helping young people and women establish businesses, create employment opportunities and become economically self-reliant.
He said Nairobi residents had for years faced economic challenges and promised that NEDP would seek to translate its “Uchumi Bora” slogan into practical opportunities for ordinary residents.
The former governor’s latest tour comes as NEDP intensifies grassroots mobilisation and seeks to position itself as an emerging political force ahead of the 2027 polls.

Sonko has maintained that the party is building a platform centred on economic development, empowerment, servant leadership, integrity and equal opportunities, rather than focusing solely on political defections.
The NEDP leader has also been holding consultations with leaders and grassroots figures across different political formations as the party expands its presence in Nairobi and other parts of the country.
With the constituency tours now gaining momentum, Sonko says his immediate focus is to listen to residents, revive grassroots groups and turn the NEDP economic agenda into tangible empowerment opportunities across Nairobi.
