NEDP party leader and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is expected to join the highly anticipated Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay this Sunday, in what could mark a significant new phase in his political mobilisation efforts.

Sonko on Saturday evening hinted at his participation in the rally through a Facebook post that quickly attracted strong reactions from his followers and supporters.

Sharing a photo of himself alongside Linda Mwananchi leader Edwin Sifuna, Sonko wrote: “Homa Bay tunakuja reee, na tumefika reee,” signalling his readiness to join the group’s activities in the region.

The Homa Bay rally will be Sonko’s first public engagement with the Linda Mwananchi group, which has in recent weeks attracted growing attention and support across the country.

His expected appearance is likely to add political weight to the gathering, coming at a time when political formations are increasingly stepping up grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sonko, a former Nairobi governor and NEDP party leader, has in recent months intensified his political activities, particularly around youth and women empowerment initiatives, while positioning his party for a bigger role in the country’s political landscape.

The Homa Bay event is expected to draw supporters and political leaders, with attention now turning to the message Sonko and other leaders will deliver at the rally.

For Linda Mwananchi, Sonko’s participation could further boost the group’s visibility as it seeks to expand its grassroots presence beyond its traditional areas of support.
