Trossard strike and late VAR drama send Arsenal five points clear

The Gunners took another huge step towards the Premier League title after grinding out a dramatic 1-0 win over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday May 10, 2026.

For long stretches, it looked like another frustrating afternoon for Arsenal. They controlled possession, created better chances, and kept knocking on the door, but the breakthrough just would not come.

Arsenal came closest in the first half when Leo’s header was somehow kept out, and another effort bounced off the post. Riccardo Calafiori also thought he had scored from a free-kick delivery by Declan Rice, only for West Ham to clear the ball off the line at the last second.

The match changed after Ben White picked up an injury midway through the game. Mikel Arteta reshuffled his side, bringing on Martin Zubimendi and pushing Rice into defense. That gave West Ham confidence, and suddenly Arsenal found themselves under pressure.

The home side nearly stunned the league leaders when a dangerous attack sent a West Ham player clean through on goal, but golden glove winner David Raya stood tall and made a massive save with his legs to keep the scores level.

Moments later, Martin Odegaard picked out Trossard inside the box, and the Belgian calmly curled his finish beyond the goalkeeper to silence the stadium and send the traveling fans wild.

But the real chaos came deep into stoppage time.

West Ham thought they had rescued a dramatic equalizer from a corner in the 95th minute, and Arsenal looked crushed for a few seconds. Then VAR stepped in. After a long review, the goal was ruled out for a foul on Raya in the buildup, keeping Arsenal’s title dream alive.

After the final whistle, Arteta praised his players for showing courage and composure in such a tense moment, while Trossard warned that the squad cannot afford to relax with two matches still left to play.

Arsenal now head back to the Emirates knowing they are closer than ever to ending their long wait for a Premier League crown.
