Two illegal firearms have been voluntarily surrendered to police in Isiolo County as the ongoing security crackdown dubbed Operation Dumisha Usalama continues to gain support from members of the public.
According to the National Police Service, the weapons were handed over by two residents from the Lowangila area in Isiolo North Sub-County on Sunday, April 13, 2026.
In a statement shared on its official X platform on Tuesday, April 14, the police confirmed that the residents surrendered an AK-47 rifle and a G3 rifle together with magazines and ammunition.
“Members of the public continue to respond positively to the ongoing ‘Operation Dumisha Usalama’,” the police said in the statement.
Authorities noted that the weapons were immediately secured after being received by officers in the area.
“The surrendered firearms, magazines, and ammunition have been securely kept in the station armoury pending further police action,” the statement added.
The police commended residents for cooperating with security agencies and supporting efforts aimed at improving safety in the region, which has previously faced challenges related to the circulation of illegal firearms.
“The National Police Service commends members of the public for their continued cooperation in this security operation,” the statement read.
Security officials further encouraged individuals still holding illegal weapons to take advantage of the ongoing amnesty period and surrender them to law enforcement agencies without fear of prosecution.
“We urge anyone still in possession of illegal weapons to take advantage of the current amnesty period and surrender them to the nearest police station,” the police said.
Operation Dumisha Usalama is part of a broader security initiative aimed at reducing the number of illicit firearms in circulation and strengthening peace in parts of northern Kenya.
Police say the operation will remain active as authorities continue to work with local communities to address insecurity and enhance public safety.
“Operation Dumisha Usalama remains active as we work together to eliminate illegal firearms and thus ensure a safer Isiolo for all,” the statement concluded.
