The KWS Mara Conservancy Veterinary Unit have rescued a young male lion that was badly injured in a fierce fight for territory, dominance and his place within the pride.

The team spotted the injured big cat limping near Kishanga, Olare Ya Pili, within the Mara Triangle.

Upon inspecting the lion, the team realised that it had deep puncture wounds, a wound below the jaw and a badly dislocated shoulder, likely from a fierce territorial fight.

His wounds were cleaned and treated, and he received antibiotics, pain relief and supportive care. However, the shoulder injury remains serious, and his recovery outlook remains guarded.

“He is part of a pride of about 10 lions,” the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) says. “For now, the focus is on giving him the best chance to heal and regain his strength. Your support helps make wildlife rescue and veterinary interventions like this possible.”
