Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, will be laid to rest today, Thursday, October 8, at Glen Forest Memorial Park in Harare, following their deaths in a helicopter crash on September 30.
The couple died alongside other passengers when the helicopter they were travelling in crashed in the Marondera area.
Their final send-off has attracted widespread attention, with funeral arrangements reflecting the couple’s well-known association with luxury and high-end vehicles.
Custom-designed coffins inspired by luxury vehicles have been prepared for the couple. Chivayo’s coffin features a black luxury Rolls Royce grille and the personalised marking “WMC 777”, while Lucy’s coffin carries a Mercedes-Benz-inspired grille and the letters “LUCY”. Both coffins feature white finishes and gold-coloured decorative details.

The designs have drawn attention because Chivayo, popularly known as Sir Wicknell, was widely recognised for his flamboyant lifestyle and frequent display of expensive cars, designer fashion and lavish gifts on social media.
His remains were transported from Doves Funeral Services in Harare to the family home in Gletwin on Wednesday, ahead of the burial.
The procession was accompanied by a convoy of high-end vehicles, attracting mourners and onlookers along the streets of Harare
The couple will be buried side by side, but in separate graves at Glen Forest Cemetery. Their burial marks the conclusion of a high-profile funeral period following the fatal crash that claimed their lives.
