16-year-old walks from Kwa Kamari to Kitui in protest over recent killings

Gift Mumo, a 16-year-old boy from Kwa Kamari in Tseikuru, is walking to Kitui following recent killings in the area as part of a campaign to call for peace.

Gift dropped out of school after Grade 9 due to the ongoing conflict involving camel herders and farmers.

He says his father fled the area because of insecurity, leaving him and his siblings under the care of their mother, who is a peasant farmer.

According to Gift, many families have been devastated by the recent attacks, with some losing loved ones while others had their property destroyed.

He is also appealing to leaders to ensure the area is connected to electricity, hospitals are built, and lasting peace is restored.

Gift has been walking for six days and says he expects to reach Mwingi town on Wednesday before proceeding to the Kitui Governor’s office.
