Police officers at Waldena Police Station in Galedyertu Sub-County, Tana River County, received an AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and three rounds of ammunition on Monday, June 29, 2026.
This followed a voluntary surrender by a member of the public in the Kalalani area.
The National Police Service described the surrender as a clear demonstration of the cooperation between security agencies and local communities in ongoing efforts to enhance peace and stability in the region.
The NPS encouraged other individuals still holding illegal firearms to come forward and surrender them to security authorities, appealing for continued public support in sharing information on illegal weapons and criminal activities.
