Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has dismissed viral claims that she has separated from her husband, lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo, responding with humor to speculation that had gained traction on social media.
Taking to her X account on Saturday, June 27, 2026, Waiguru shared photos of herself and her husband together, poking fun at reports suggesting their marriage had hit the rocks.
“Ati nimewachwa, siwezi kubali kuwachwa na hii baridi yote ya Gichugu,” she wrote, before tagging her husband, “@kamothowaiganjo.”
Her lighthearted response appeared to put to rest claims that the couple had quietly parted ways after a social media post alleged they were no longer together.
The viral post claimed that Waiguru and Waiganjo first met in 2009 during the constitution-making process, where they were both serving as consultants for parties negotiating the new Constitution.
According to the post, the two developed a relationship after meeting at the Likoni Ferry while travelling to a constitutional forum in Mombasa.
It further alleged that they shared a simple meal of bread and soda before Waiganjo asked for her phone number, eventually leading to a romantic relationship.
The post also revisited stories the couple has previously shared publicly about their early courtship, including their first date in Nairobi, where they reportedly had their first disagreement after Waiguru spent much of the evening on her phone.

It further claimed that Waiganjo later proposed at the Lord Erroll Hotel before the couple held their traditional engagement in February 2019.
However, despite the online speculation, Waiguru’s latest post, accompanied by recent photos of the couple together, suggests their relationship remains intact.
Neither Waiguru nor Waiganjo directly addressed the source of the rumours, but the governor’s playful remark has been widely interpreted as a clear dismissal of the separation claims.
