Boost for Kindiki as Mt Kenya East Councils of Elders throw their weight behind him and Ruto’s re-election

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Saturday, August 15 received a major boost in his quest to be President William Ruto’s running mate in 2027.

This is after the Mount Kenya East Councils of Elders, during an event held at Nembure Grounds in Embu County, resolved to support Kindiki unconditionally as the Deputy President and in his future ambitions of becoming the first President of Kenya from Mount Kenya East.

In the event attended by, among others, DP Kindiki and Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, the elders called upon the people of Mount Kenya West, including those living in the diaspora, to equally support Kindiki.

The Councils include;  Njuri Ncheke, Nyaangi Ndiriri, Kiama Kia Muembu, Ngome and Mwea Council of Elders.

The elders argue that for nearly a century, spanning from colonial and post-independence periods, the people of Mt. Kenya East have equovocally supported national leaders from Mount Kenya West.

“We collectively, as the people of Mount Kenya East, supported President Jomo Kenyatta for 15 years, Mwai Kibaki as Vice President for 12 years and later as President for 10 years, Vice Presidents Joseph Karanja and George Kinuthia Kiarie Saitoti, and later Uhuru Kenyatta as President for 10 years without question or division,” the elders argue.

They also argue that they extended “unconditional support and solidarity” to Rigathi Gachagua for the two years he served as Deputy President.

“For decades, the people of Mt. Kenya East have stood firmly with leaders from Mt. Kenya West. We therefore believe that the time has come for the people of Mount Kenya West to reciprocate that solidarity by supporting Kithure Kindiki unconditionally as the Deputy President and in his future ambitions of becoming the first President of the Republic of Kenya from Mount Kenya East.”

Consequently, the Mount Kenya East Councils of Elders have vowed to initiate what they call structured and respectful engagements with their counterparts, the Councils of Elders from Mt. Kenya West, including Kiama Kia Ma, with the objective of forging a common position to support the re-election of President Ruto and DP Kindiki.

“We express our profound gratitude and appreciation to H.E. the President, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, for picking Kithure Kindiki as the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya. We recognize this position as an honour to the people of Mount Kenya East and Mount Kenya as a whole.

We reaffirm our support for the President, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, and his administration, and pledge the support of the people of Mt. Kenya East towards his re-election as the President of the Republic of Kenya for the second term.”
