DCI detectives have arrested a man on Jogoo Road, Nairobi, for police impersonation and extortion after receiving reports from members of the public.
According to DCI the suspect, Augustine Mjomba Mwadime, was arrested by officers from Jogoo Road Police Station at DC Stage, following reports of his suspicious character.
“The suspect, Augustine Mjomba Mwadime, was arrested by officers from Jogoo Road Police Station at DC Stage, following reports of a suspicious character extorting unsuspecting members of the public while masquerading as a law enforcement officer,” the DCI stated.
When the suspect was confronted by the officers, he introduced himself as Sergeant Augustine Mjomba Mwadime, claiming to be attached to GSU Training School in Embakasi. After investigations were carried out, it was revealed that he was not an officer.
“His purported police credentials soon came under scrutiny, and a search exposed an elaborate attempt to lend his fraudulent identity the trappings of legitimate authority,” the DCI reported.
The detectives were able to recover from him a forged certificate of appointment bearing fake service number, a pair of handcuffs and two keys and an assortment of props intended to make his impersonation more convincing.
The suspect was taken into custody where he is undergoing processing pending arraignment.
