Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament (MP) Zaheer Jhanda has been summoned to appear before the Kisii County DCI office in connection with the ongoing investigations following the attack on Linda Mwananchi convoy in Keumbu on Friday, July 3.
In a statement on Sunday, July 5 morning, the National Police Service reported that police officers had also arrested four additional suspects following the violent disruption along Kisii-Keroka Road, bringing the total number of arrests to seven.
The operation that saw the arrests was led by the Officer Commanding Keumbu Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kisii Central.
“Meanwhile, investigations remain ongoing as the Service continues to pursue further leads in order to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify any other individuals who may have been involved,” the statement reads in part.
The Inspector General of the National Police Service (IG-NPS) has since directed the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) to expedite its assessment of all aspects of the violence, identify any operational gaps that may have contributed to the incident, and take appropriate action within the broader context of the attack.
IAU officers are already on the ground in the affected area.
