Police in Kangundo, Machakos County, are investigating the death of a 34-year-old teacher whose body was found inside her rented room.

The body of Winfred Mutua was found lying unresponsive in her house at Kwale Village, Mukunike Sub-Location.

According to the caretaker of the rental premises, the teacher had rented the house last month, and that she had been living with a man who investigators believe is her boyfriend.

Police who visited the scene found Mutua lying on her bed naked, covered with a bedsheet.

Preliminary investigations have since revealed that she had multiple bruises in her body, signs that police say are consistent with an assault before death.

Investigators also found Mutua’s mobile phone plugged into a charger in the room.

After Crime Scene Investigation officers photographed the scene and the body, Mutua’s body was removed to Kangundo Level IV Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police are currently tracing the presumed boyfriend to help with investigations.
